One step further towards mercury-free light sources

12 amendments from The European Commission

Although mercury is considered one of the most dangerous environmental toxins, it has up until now been allowed to be used in certain light sources while waiting for more energy efficient alternatives.

The European Commission has recently published 12 amendments to the RoHS Directive. These amendments aim to end a wide range of existing exemptions for the use of mercury (Hg) in lamps and for the time being retain exemptions where substitution of alternatives is technically impracticable.

A number of common light sources such as T5 fluorescent lamps may no longer be placed on the EU market after August 24, 2023.

Through our sustainability strategy and our work with circularity, we give our customers the opportunity to rebuild an older lighting system, where the exterior frame and most of the components are kept, but the interior is filled with new technology adapted to present day’s high demands within light and lighting technology. Through such an upgrade, the service life is extended and the customers get a more energy efficient facility. You are warmly welcome to contact us to discuss different possibilities!
